Ivano-Frankivsk

4-7 September, 2011

I took the bus on Sunday from Kolomiya to Ivano-Frankivsk, a regional capital. It’s not as chocolate-box pretty as L’viv, but few places are. The city centre is very pleasant, with wide pedestrian areas, little parks and fountains and lots of people strolling there in the evening. There is also a City Lake close to my hostel, where I am now, sipping lemon balm tea from the Carpathians made for me by my hostel hostess, Tanya. I am amusing myself in Ivano-Frankivsk (named for the poet Ivan Franko, second only in Ukrainian poetic fame to Taras Shevchenko) by walking around the streets, sitting in cafes people-watching, and taking photos of buildings. See the socialist-realist regional administration building with the phallic monument in front!  I paid a visit to the regional museum in the building with the clock-tower.
