Braşov 2

Sunday 21 August, 2011

My hostel is called “Jugend Stube” on Michael Weiss Street. Entry is through the Sex Shop. No, not really. But almost.

Just outside the old city walls, I visited the White Tower and the Black Tower on the hill on one side of the town, and the Tampa Reserve on the top of the mountain on the other side (where the Hollywood-style Brasov sign is located). I did the sensible thing for once, riding the cable-car to the top, exploring some nature trails and walking back down. I was told there are still wild bears in the woods up there, but I didn’t encounter any (fortunately or not). The view of the town from the top is spectacular.

Down in town there is the the main square with the old Town Hall (1420) and the nearby Black Church (not so black since a recent scrub). Lots of cafes and restaurants to choose from with outdoor seating in the streets and lanes.
