Vidin 2

9-10 August, 2011

Today I went to Belogradchik, about 1 hour from Vidin by bus. Belogradchik is the nearest town to a geological formation of weirdly-shaped red rock pinnacles, 50 sq. km in area, about 17km long by 3 km wide. I only had time to visit the Fortress on a hill above the town, with a view of some of them. They have been named after people, animals and local legends e.g. “The Rebel Velko”, “Adam and Eve”, “The Madonna”, “Stone of the Thoughts”, “The Horse-Rider”, “The Schoolgirl”, “The Bear”, “The Cobra”. You have to use your imagination.
